ABCD Team

Job Roles

The responsible individual's role is to support the Homes Manager in ensuring that the home is being run safely and efficiently in line with company policies and fully compliant with legislative and regulatory requirements. The Responsible Individual will help the home manager develop and embed a culture built on openness and honesty where the highest possible outcomes can be achieved for the children, young people, and the team.

The Registered manager is responsible for leading the home and ensuring it retains its family-orientated home-from-home environment the children and young people deserve. A top priority for all Registered Managers is to provide children and young people receive the highest quality of holistic care and support from a team who feels equally supported. The manager will achieve this through establishing, communicating, and bringing together all individuals, both internally and externally, that play a role in changing the children’s and young people’s lives.

The Deputy Manager provides direct support to the home manager in helping to oversee the running of the home and improving the children and young people’s lives. The Deputy Manager is responsible for monitoring the progress of the children, young people, and the team. They will look to establish innovative ways to support growth and development. As Deputy Manager, they will undertake the responsibility of overseeing the home in the Managers absence, ensuring that the high standards detailed within the homes statement of purpose are being maintained.

A residential support worker plays an intricate role in providing children and young people with high-quality holistic care, helping shape their lives by directly involving them in their growth and development. By helping to create a loving family-orientated environment, the children and young people feel safe, supported, loved and, most importantly, can have fun. As a residential support worker, you encourage, celebrate, and promote every child's and young person's uniqueness and have front-row seats to watch them achieve their goals and aspirations, of which there could be no greater reward.

With a good night's rest being a critical element of growth and development, the night-time support worker plays a crucial role in supporting our children and young people to settle at night and achieve a good night's sleep. For many of us, bedtime provides the perfect transition from a busy day into quiet solitude; unfortunately, for many children and young people, this period can cause them anxiety as they start to worry about what the next day will bring. A night-time support worker will develop positive sleep routines alongside the children and young people to help ease any anxiety, so they can maintain a healthy sleep balance and recharge for the day ahead.

Induction

We at ABCD are passionate and committed to seeing our children and young people develop and grow. We are dedicated to supporting the growth of our teams and supporting every team member within the home to thrive in their professional development and advancement within our ABCD homes.

We at ABCD understand that a team member’s first impression plays a pivotal role in how they view our company. By reflecting on the research conducted, we recognise the positive effects a comprehensive introduction programme can have on our team members, alleviating any anxiety they may be feeling.

During this 6-week probation period, the new team member will have a designated work mentor who will have completed their probation. They will support the new team member in getting to know the team, the children, and young people and provide advice and guidance as necessary.

During their 6-week induction period, team members will receive their ABCD Induction Standards folder. They will be expected to work through and complete this during their probation period and undertake several training opportunities, ranging from on-the-job, classroom-based, and Online training. Additionally, the team member will receive fortnightly supervision from the Manager or Deputy manager.

Develop With Us

We understand that some of our team members consider their current role to be their dream job and are very happy, and as such, we will provide the support; they need to become the best version they can be within the role. There will also be some team members that, upon taking their first steps at Above and Beyond Care Devon, wish to advance and progress further, and at ABCD, we take pride in supporting these team members to achieve their goals.

Formal Training

ABCD is dedicated to progressing and improving our team members’ skills and knowledge so they can deliver the highest quality of care to our children and young people. We do this by endeavouring to keep up to date with new methods, research, and training opportunities.

ABCD is proud to employ people from all levels of society, many of whom will have different experiences and bring varying standards, skills, and expectations. Equally, we recognise that individuals can learn differently.

To further support our team members we provide them with the Honey and Mumford learning style questionnaire to complete as part of their initial introduction.  This questionnaire identifies an individual learner’s preferred learning style to which will then be used to produce their own personalised holistic training plan.
